The Gospel in Genesis
God protected Cain from getting what he deserved.
And the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed? If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it” (Genesis 4:6–7 AMP).
Believing You and obeying You leads to life, and ignoring You leads to sin and death (and separation) from You. You provided Cain with guidance, a warning, and a way out of sin. You are always good.
And the Lord said to him, “Therefore, whoever kills Cain, a sevenfold vengeance [that is, punishment seven times worse] shall be taken on him [by Me].” And the Lord set a [protective] mark (sign) on Cain, so that no one who found (met) him would kill him (Genesis 4:15 AMP).
It’s wild to me that in the midst of Cain’s great sin — he was the first human to commit murder — You set a protective mark upon him so that no one could do the same to him. You protected Cain from getting what he deserved. Is this a foreshadowing to the Gospel?
